Spring Riding Academy 2025

Fun and adventure on horseback…What could be better than that?!?


Open to all skill levels, ages 6yrs-adults. Horses and all equipment needed are provided.

During this academy students will work on improving horsemanship skills and gaining confidence in their riding abilities through games, teamwork, and individual challenges. Students also learn how to groom and tack up, learning the parts of the saddle and bridle, as well as learning about their horses.. Respect, self-discipline, and responsibility are just a few of the life skills practiced during classes. See tentative class schedules below.

Little Britches (ages 6-9)
Cost $280 ($40/class for 7 classes)

Young students will learn the basics of leading, grooming, saddling, and riding. Kids will practice listening to and following instructions while gaining an understanding of basic horsemanship skills.
Classes are each 90 minutes long, 6 classes followed by a Family Fun Night at Dusty Trails where families can enjoy watching students ride and show off what they have learned, followed by a campfire cookout with the kids (food provided by Dusty Trails).

Buckaroos (older beginners/intermediate riders)
Students in this class will be working on learning and improving horsemanship skills. Students are grouped by current skill level and are challenged and encouraged throughout classes to advance their knowledge and skills through games and both group and individual tasks. Students will also learn how to saddle and bridle correctly, and begin learning to identify various parts of the saddle and bridle.

Top Hands (intermediate/advanced)
Students in this class will be challenged to take their horsemanship skills to the next level. This class will stress correct body position, clear communication cues with horses, deeper understanding of saddle fit and being able to identify all the components of the saddle and bridle, and gaining confidence in all aspects of riding, all while having fun and making friends!

Buckaroos and Top Hands will have 6 classes (2 1/2-hours each) followed by an all-day outing to ride at Ash Hollow State Park, west of Lake McConaughy. Transportaion and lunch for the outing are provided and included in Academy cost.
Cost $400 ($50/class for 6 classes, $100 for the outing)

Payment will be taken the first day of class. We accept card, cash, and check. A cash discount is available.

Whether you have never ridden before but would love to learn, or you have some riding experience and would love to learn more…this camp is for you! Horses and all equipment needed are provided. Just come ready to learn and have fun!

Dusty Trails Basic Horsemanship camp is open to everyone age 6 to adult. It is a great camp for individuals and families looking for a new adventure.

  • During this 2-day camp students will learn the basics of riding horses. Throughout each of the 4 lessons, riders will learn and improve upon basic horsemanship skills, gaining confidence in their riding abilities through games, teamwork, and individual challenges.

  • Riders learn how to groom and tack up their horse, becoming familiar with the parts of the saddle and bridle, as well as learning about their horses.

  • Respect, self-discipline, and responsibility are just a few of the life skills also practiced during lessons.

  • Students will ride twice a day for two days. Clustering lessons in this way enhances learning potential and retention.

Summer Horse Camp = Fun, Friends, and Outdoor Adventure!

Dusty Trails Intermediate Horsemanship mini-camps are perfect for anyone looking to improve riding skills and horsemanship knowledge.

  • Ages 6 to Adult

  • All skill levels welcome…we will encourage and challenge each student to grow and improve whether they have little experience or are a seasoned rider.

  • 4 lessons in 2 days!

  • Great for individuals and families alike

  • We supply the horses and tack, you just show up ready to learn and have fun

  • Saddling, bridling, lots of riding, games, teamwork, individual challenges

  • Sign up for one camp or both…also check out our other summer camps that include an all-day horseback outing or and overnight horseback camping trip.

  • 2 1/2 hour lessons!

  • Great for kids or families traveling from out of town

Horses and all equipment needed are provided. Just come ready to learn and have fun!

  • During this 2-day camp students will learn the basics of riding horses. Throughout each of the 4 lessons, riders will learn and improve upon basic horsemanship skills, gaining confidence in their riding abilities through games, teamwork, and individual challenges.

  • Riders learn how to groom and tack up their horse, becoming familiar with the parts of the saddle and bridle, as well as learning about their horses.

  • Perfect Horse Camp opportunity for families or those traveling from out of town. This camp can be attended with only a 1-night stay in North Platte. Attendees are responsible for overnight accommodations and meals. There are numerous hotels in the town.

  • Bonus Opportunity: For a fun extra adventure for the family, there is an opportunity to add on a river float trip on Monday between riding lessons. Choose from a tank, kayaks, or tubes and bring a sack lunch to enjoy on the lazy river float…it is an adventure the whole family will enjoy!

Summer Outing Riding Academy

Enjoy an all-day horseback excursion!

Join us for 3 amazing days of horseback riding lessons. Days 1 and 2 will consist of two 2 1/2 hour lessons each day, followed by and all-day horseback adventure on day 3.

  • All riding levels welcome, we challenge and encourage each student to grow and improve throughout lessons.

  • Ages 8- Adult (7-year-olds with prior approval)

  • Fun, friends, and adventure

  • Develop and improve riding skills and horsemanship knowledge

  • No equipment needed - provide the horses and tack, you come ready to learn and have a great time!

  • Learn through games, teamwork, and individual challenges

  • Lunch is provided on Day 3 for the outing.

Camping with horses…the ultimate adventure!

Calling all horse lovers and outdoor enthusiasts! This action-packed horseback riding academy is a great way to end the summer. All abilities are welcome and will be encouraged to grow in their horsemanship skills and knowledge.

  • 4 amazing days of riding! Two days of lessons followed by an overnight camping trip in the Nebraska National Forest at Halsey

  • 4 meals provided during the camping trip on days 3 & 4.

  • Enjoy our campfire cooking (day 3 & 4)

  • Enjoy a break during the heat of the day to cool off in the river (day 3)

  • Horses, tack, and transportation provided. Just come ready to learn. Some extra tents available for camping trip.

A Dusty Trails Christmas

Join us for “A Dusty Trails Christmas”

Take a magical horse-drawn tour of the beautiful Buffalo Bill Ranch lit up for the holiday season, then we’ll make our way to the nearby Lincoln County Historical Museum to view the festive Christmas Village display.

This is a great way to skip the long lines to visit the unique Christmas display at the museums!

Book a seat on either the wagon or the Cinderella carriage for this one-of-a-kind Christmas tour. Each tour lasts approximately 20-30 minutes.

Check in for your tour at Dusty Trails. Enjoy some hot cocoa and treats, warm up in the building by the heater, or visit the petting zoo while you wait for your tour to begin (Petting zoo included with ticket).
